UPSOT; LUPITA NYONG’O, ACTRESS REACTING TO ANNOUNCEMENT OF HER BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS WIN FOR HER ROLE IN “12 YEARS A SLAVE” AND WALKING ONTO STAGE

(SOUNDBITE) (English) KEVIN MUNENE, NAIROBI RESIDENT, SAYING:

“It was great news because honestly as Kenyans we need to be known everywhere around the world and it’s good to see that a woman can represent Kenya and not necessarily a man because Kenya is honestly going far as it is. With the young generation we are going to go places.”

Acting teacher had this to say

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PATRICK TEIYA, PERFORMING ARTS TEACHER, SAYING:

“The greatest thing for a teacher is to be able to see someone you have worked with getting to that point you know where they are receiving accolades all over. There is nothing that gives a teacher so much joy than that. I mean You can’t describe it, and nothing beats that.”

Nyongo won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ’12 years a slave’ becoming the first Kenyan to win the coveted award from a country where acting is not considered a sustainable career choice.
