Cuba to Send 165 Medical Officials to West Africa to Join the Fight against Ebola Disease.

15th Sep 2014 Cuba has joined the worldwide response to fight the Ebola Disease in some countries in West Africa, with a commitment to send 165 medical officials to affected countries. A statement on the World Health Organization website informs us that the medical officials will include doctors, nurses, epidemiologists, specialists in infection control, intensive care specialists and social mobilization officers.

The doctors who have all worked in Africa previously, are expected to  arrive Sierra Leone by the first week in October and stay for 6 months.

WHO director general Margaret Chan, in response to the undoubtedly welcome news, is quoted by the statement as saying “If we are going to go to war with Ebola, we need the resources to fight,” She added “Cuba is world famous for its ability to train outstanding doctors and nurses and for its generosity in helping fellow countries on the route to progress.”

Glad to see such a positive response and we wish all medical workers, both on ground and expected, the very best as they battle to help their fellow man
