Latvia wins European men's beach volleyball title at third attempt

Aug 6, 2015 Latvia’s duo, Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedinshave emerged as gold medalists at the just concluded European beach volleyball championship in Klagenfurt, Austria.  The pair went home as silver medalists in 2013 and 2014 but laid claim to their first gold medals on their third attempt.

The Latvia players won the first set by 21-18 but fell behind Italy’s Ingrosso twins in the second set until they won three straight points to level the score. They took the lead and held on to it, winning with a spike to take the second set to 21-18.

An all-Netherlands bronze medal match was resolved in favor of Reinder Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst.
