Cuba, African Union commission renew memorandum of understanding

Oct 07, 2015 Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, recently met with Cuba’s interim Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina during her five-day working visit to the island. Zuma, who is the first woman to lead the African Union, expressed appreciation to Cuba for its long-standing solidarity.

“I wanted also to express appreciation for the solidarity, friendship and all the support that Cuba has always given to Africa”

Responding to that, Marcelino Medina, Cuba’s Foreign Vice-Minister also took the opportunity to express gratitude to the African Union for its support over the years.

“To reiterate to you the unchanging character of our solidarity with African countries from the outset, and also to thank you for the support that the African Union has always given us in the struggle to lift the blockade,”

Following the speeches, both Dlamini Zuma and Medina signed documents to renew a Memorandum of Understanding between the African Union and Cuba.

As part of her itinerary, Zuma and her delegate visited Cuban health officials that assisted in the Ebola fight last year.
