Forum promotes integration of Africa: Chinese vice minister

Dec 01, 2015 China’s vice commerce minister Qian Keming recently asserted that the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has promoted the economic and trade relations between China and the continent since its inauguration in 2000.

Speaking at a press briefing, ahead of the sixth ministerial meeting in South Africa, Qian said the China-Africa economic and trade relations have made positive progress in expanding investment and financing cooperation.

“The cooperation between China and Africa has moved from bilateral and individual projects to regional integrated projects, and the industrial agglomeration effect brought by cooperation platforms such as economic and trade cooperative zones has initially demonstrated,”

According to Qian, China has helped African countries and regional organizations in launching a number of customs facilities and commodity inspection facilities.

China has also taken an active part in Africa’s transnational and trans-regional cooperation of infrastructure construction. The projects including the railway linking Kenya’s Nairobi and Mombasa, and the extension of hydroelectric power station in Kariba of Zimbabwe.
