About EbonyLife TV
Africa’s first Global Black Entertainment & Lifestyle network.
EbonyLife TV was launched as a pan-African channel, on 1st July 2013, with a vision to be a global platform for premium African entertainment. Our main aim was to create a positive response to our continent being portrayed in perpetual crisis—war, famine, and corruption. We realized that African audiences wanted to see a narrative that reflected their own struggles and triumphs, the richness of their relationships and the progress being made in their emerging societies.
Since deciding to change that narrative, we have created more than 5,000 hours of entertainment and lifestyle programming, with high production values. EbonyLife TV is broadcast across Africa on the DStv and StarTimes networks. We continue to expand globally through our VoD platform, EbonyLife ON, with viewers in the US, UK, and Europe, connecting the African diaspora with the quality content they demand.
In March 2018, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced that they had concluded a three-year deal with EbonyLife that would include co-production of ‘The Dahomey Warriors’, a series about the legendary Amazons who took on French colonialists in a 19th century West African kingdom.
In January 2020, AMC Networks (USA) announced its partnership with EbonyLife to produce Nigeria 2099, an afrofuturisc crime-drama created by EbonyLife.
Recently, Netflix acquired our most popular drama series: Castle & Castle, Fifty, Sons of the Caliphate, On The Real, and The Governor, along with our reality show, The Dating Game.
