2014 Cannes Film Festival: Hollywood stars show support for Chibok Girls.

21 May 2014 And so it is that the 2014 Festival de Cannes otherwise known as the Cannes film festival has kicked off in full force with screen royalties gracing the red carpets at the French Riviera.

But this year’s marks a global humanitarian support as actors posed on the red carpet holding ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ signs. This is in solidarity of the campaign to free over 200 Nigerian school girls said to be kidnapped by Islamist militants in April.

While some have criticized celebrity publicity of the campaign especially as protests aren’t allowed on the Cannes red carpet, Hollywood star Salma Hayek has defended her decision to flout the rule:

SOT: SALMA HAYEK

“i’ve always been involved with the cause of fighting for women’s rights and i took the opportunity because there were going to be so many photographers to exert pressure and remind them we want these girls back, they have to do something about it. “

The 2014 Cannes Film Festival kicked off on the 14th of May and will run through till the 25th of the month.
