6 Nigerian women climb Kilmanjaro to raise awareness for IDP camp residents

Jan 06, 2016 Sometime in November 2015, six Nigerian women committed to the grueling task of climbing up Africa’s highest mountain to raise awareness and corporate intervention for children and women in IDP camps across Nigeria.

Most people didn’t believe that they would stay true to their commitment, but guess what, they did!

Speaking before the climb, the project ambassador, Remi Abere said:

“I think all the ladies have been resilient and stayed focus on the cause, which is to raise money for the children and women in the IDP camps. So here we go”

Although six women started the adventure, only four were cleared to take off.

The charity adventurers included Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, Wife of the Executive Governor of Ogun State; Mrs. Uzo Nwani, an IBM Executive; Mrs. Debo Laditan, a legal practitioner and the Project Ambassador, Mrs. Remi Abere.

After the first day on climbing, the ladies shared their experiences saying:

“We did about five and a half hours walking yesterday…I think for me just to get through, and that’s the whole idea”

After braving terrifying terrain, harsh weather conditions and fatique, the ladies finally hoisted the Nigerian flag at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Calling out for supports, the project ambassador said:

“We need your support, we really need the supports of the whole of Nigeria…we have a website, please support us in this way.”
