Nigerian Sprinter, Blessing Okagbare Adds More Gold to Her Collection and Sets New Record at the Senior Athletics championship.
13th Aug 2014 Barely 2 weeks after running her best ever at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Blessing Okagbare is making headlines again. The speedracer has taken the gold in the ongoing Senior Athletics championship and has in the process, created a new championship record in the short sprint with a time of 11.00 seconds, to eclipse the previous record of 11.03 also set by her 4 years ago in Nairobi Kenya. Second in the race was Ivorian Murrielle Ahoure, with a time of 11.03.
Our speedster has this to say “I am very happy to have won the title because I just wanted to win for my fans and do my country proud. Just coming straight from the Commonwealth Games, my body is tired, but my coach told me to just be focused and execute the race, which was what I did.”
She does think we need to do more, saying “It was good that we had three Nigerians in the final but this is Africa. I am hoping that we can have this kind of representation on a bigger platform, like the World Championships and the Olympics,”
We agree with you Blessing and from EL Reports, we say: Keep running, keep winning.
