Affected West African Countries to Receive Resources to Help Curb the Spread of the Ebola Virus.

22nd Oct 2014 Still on the deadly virus, Ghana’s president John Mahama has announced that vital supplies and resources to tackle the spread of the virus are starting to arrive in the three worst-hit West African countries. Mr. Mahama, who heads the regional bloc ECOWAS, also said treatment centers were being set up in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. President Mahama has called for proper co-ordination between institutions involved, to avoid duplication.

Support is also coming from many other angles. For instance, Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has reached out to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia to pledge his support, volunteering to assist with medical personnel and other resources.  Nigeria is also taking up the mantle of responsibility with the mobilization of volunteers to go and assist efforts in countries worst hit by the disease. A main driver for the volunteer efforts is Lagos State where the disease first struck and the Lagos State Government says that it will be employing the same methods it used to fight the disease, in Sierra Leone.
