A Ugandan University comes up with initiative to provide employment for fresh graduates

27th April 2015 In a bid to address unemployment, a tertiary institution in Uganda has started an initiative which enables new graduates become exceptional entrepreneurs. The Uganda Christian University launched a department to help graduates identify businesses ideas and create their own businesses when they leave university.

The University has teamed up with Uganda Manufacturers Association for this venture and the initiative, tagged the UCU entrepreneur club, will be run by the faculty business and Administration with professional help from UMA and the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce.

Dean of faculty for the Department of business studies Martin Kabanda, said the entrepreneur club will give fresh school leavers the skills needed to survive in the rough waters of too few opportunities and too many job seekers in the country.

He added that the department will start as a local body, to help students go through the university, but will eventually expand to help students from other universities.

Statistics from the ministry of Gender says about four hundred thousand youth are released into the job market each year for about nine thousand available jobs.
