India welcomes Tanzanian President.
June 30, 2015 The president of Tanzania President, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and his Indian counterpart, President Pranab Mukherjee as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met recently in New Delhi .
Tanzania’s number 1man was welcomed with a ceremony at the presidential palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan in India. His six day visit was to build ties between the two nations; India and Tanzania have had close relations since the 1960s.
President Kikwete paid tribute to the great Mahatma Gandhi, at his memorial in the capital. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs website said Tanzania is one of India’s largest African trading partners, with India’s economic engagement in the country totalling $1.834 billion between 1990 and 2012, while an additional $497 million has been invested by Indian companies in special export deals in Tanzania.
