Modi discusses India's security council membership issue with UNGA president-elect

Sep 3, 2015 Newly elected president of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Mogens Lykketoft recently held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Morgen Lykketoft, who will succeed Uganda’s Sam Kutesa, held the meeting during a four-day visit to India.

Amongst the topics discussed by the two leaders, India’s bid for a permanent membership to the UN Security Council, renewing global partnerships for implementation of Sustainable Development and climate change took center stage.

The United Nations climate talks are billed for Paris later this year, with the aim of limiting the damage of the rise in global temperature. Convincing India to strategically lower its own emission is vital to the success of the talks.
