Japanese defence minister meets South Korean counterpart in Seoul

Oct 23, 2015 Japan’s Defense Minister Gen Nakatani recently held a meeting with his South Korean counterpart Han Min-koo in Seoul.

According to the South Korean Defense Ministry, the two ministers discussed ways to boost military cooperation between the two countries.

In September, Japanese parliament voted into law new security bills, which could let Japanese troops fight overseas for the first time since 1945. The defense policy shift has been widely regarded as a milestone in Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s push to loosen the limits of the pacifist constitution on the military.

During his visit, minister Nakatani was also treated to a banquet at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition.
