Hot air balloons lift off at the 14th annual international balloon festival in Leon, Mexico

Nov 20, 2015 Colorful hot air balloons recently took to the skies of Guanajuato for the International Aerostatic Balloon Festival in Mexico.

The four-day event, which was in its 14th installment, featured hot air balloon rides, musical performances, expositions and other activities for families.

According the event’s website, this year’s event saw over 200 balloons flying in the skies over Leon Metropolitan Park.

Sandra Slim, the festival’s director said:

“The festival has become a true icon of Mexico. It’s an ambassador to the world; it’s an event that brings a message of peace and shows what Mexico is made of,”

Some balloons carried advertisements while others were designed to look like characters from popular shows and films.

One of the festival participants said:

“My favourite was the one my son Leonardo liked, which was Sponge Bob. I thought it was amazing, and to see his smile and his happiness, it made the whole trip worthwhile,”
