African runners once again dominate Brazil's traditional Sao Silvestre Race

Jan 04, 2016 African runners recently dominated the annual Sao Silvestre Road Race in Sao Paulo with Kenyan runner Stanley Biwott taking the top spot in the men’s race.

The 15 kilometer race, which is in its 91st edition, saw about 30,000 competitors from 42 different countries.

Biwott, who crossed the finishing line in 44 minutes and 31 seconds, was closely followed by Ethiopians Leul Aleme and Feyisa Gemechu.

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Ymer Ayalew won the race for the second-year in a row, finishing the course in 54 minutes and 1 second, two seconds ahead of Kenyan runner Delvine Meringor.

Failuna Matanga, from Tanzania, rounded out the top three after 54 minutes, 11 seconds.
