Private Picasso – artist's rare works he kept in his studio up for auction

Feb 01, 2016 Pablo Picasso lovers will soon get the opportunity to buy some of the artist’s works at Sotheby’s upcoming sale “Picasso in Private” auction in London.

Commenting on the auction, Marie de Malherbe, Director of Specialist, Impressionist and Modern Art at Sotheby’s said:

“It’s been so exciting because I have never seen in one go drawings and sculptures and ceramics from each different period of Picasso and quite a lot of very rare drawings actually that you never see on the art market,”

The auction will feature a collection of 187 works including 70 ceramics, 106 works on papers and terracotta sculptures.

“These pieces have always stayed with the artist, which is quite incredible because, you know, he was attached to them and he maybe even went back to them sometimes. And so they remained with Picasso, with his family and then were given to Marina and she has kept them until now,”

The “Picasso in Private” sale will take place on the 5th of February as part of the broader Impressionist, Modern and Surrealist auction on February 3rd.
