Syrian opposition meets UN envoy, demands action on humanitarian issues

Feb 03, 2016 A Syrian opposition delegation recently met the U.N.’s special envoy Staffan de Mistura demanding for improved humanitarian conditions or they would shun political negotiations.

Speaking at a news conference, Salim al-Muslat, spokesman for the opposition Higher Negotiation Committee said:

“We’re here, we’re keen to start negotiation and need to see that the international community takes serious steps towards implementing resolution that’s signed by 15 members of the (United Nations) Security Council… “We are optimistic and we’re here to really find a solution for all Syrians, no matter what side they are on. We are here to find Syria, to see Syria, free of terrorism, free of dictatorship, for all Syrians,”

The 17-strong HNC delegation also demanded a cessation of attacks on civilian areas, the release of detainees and the lifting of blockades.
