Two Made in Nigeria cars to participate in the Shell Eco Marathon 2014
21 May 2014 For the first time, 2 Made in Nigeria cars will be participating in the Shell Eco Marathon 2014 alongside 200 other cars from 26 other countries. Tuke Tuke built by students of the University of Benin and AutoNov II built by students from the University of Lagos have passed the strict technical tests required to participate in the Marathon. Both cars are solar battery powered and are participating in the prototype class.
According to a statement by the Media Manager, Shell Nigeria, Precious Okolobo, “Shell Eco-marathon challenges student teams from around the world to design, build and test ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. The winners would be teams that go the furthest using the least amount of energy.”
The UNIBEN and UNILAG teams are sponsored by the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria and are the first teams from Sub-Saharan (Africa) to enter the global event
