Three African teams to participate in the Imagine Cup tournament in Seattle.
18th June 2014 The whole of Africa may have their eyes and minds in Brazil at this point, but there are at least 3 groups of people who are thinking of another tournament, this one in Seattle.
The Imagine Cup is a student technology training program and competition. Every year, students from colleges around the world pour all their energy into creating solutions using technology and the best go head to head in a bid to become world champions
Narrowed down from over 150 teams from around the world, 35 teams have been chosen and 3 of these come from Africa. For Nigeria we have Team High Rise from LAUTECH with their solution, Catara, which uses the HD camera on smart phones to detect early cataracts. Team Illogic from Egypt have created a game called Puppy in Bubble and Team Afrigal tech from Uganda has created MDEX, a mobile sickle cell detection kit.
The teams will travel to the US and compete for the chance to win $50,000 USD as well as a boot camp-style experience designed to further develop their projects.
IN addition to the chance to win a prize, the students will get the chance to interact, learn from their colleagues and gain valuable mentorship experience.
