A NEW CHAIRPERSON FOR THE AFRICAN UNION
3rd Feb 2014 – The African Union Summit has come to a close and this year, the AU heads of state launched “2014 Year of Agriculture and Food Security, Marking 10th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).”
It was also time to elect a new Chairperson for the African Union.
ThisDay Live tells us that Ethiopian Prime Minister HailemariamDessalegn handed over the 1 year rotating position to President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania.
The position of first vice president went to Zimbabwe, second vice president was Democratic Republic of Congo, while Nigeria emerged third vice president of AU.
