Africa geers up for chess championship

8th April 2015 The schedule for the annual Zone 4.2 Chess Championships has been announced. The tournament will take place in Kampala, Uganda from April 17 to 26, 2015 and will host some of the finest players of the game from around Africa. This year’s edition coincides with the World Team Chess Championships in Armenia and China which will run from April 18th to 29th.

Moroccan International Arbiter Abdelfattah Akkour is expected to officiate the games.

Uganda Chess Federation president Vianney Luggya, is quoted as saying “Akkour’s appointment as chief arbiter in the upcoming zonal has been confirmed by Africa Chess Confederation President, Lewis Ncube. The Africa Chess Confederation recently took a stand to the effect that chief arbiters in international FIDE events should not hail from the host federation and in the case of zonals they should come from countries outside of that zone,”
The ten countries in Zone 4.2  are Sudan, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Somalia, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt and Uganda.
