Africa shines at the men’s London marathon
April 29, 2015 Africa took the lead at the London Marathon this year in a big way.
It was a sweeping win with Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya winning the marathon in a time of two hours, four minutes and 41 seconds, while defending London Marathon champion Wilson Kipsang from the same country came second as he reached the finish line in a time of 2:04:46.
World record-holder Dennis Kimetto finished third with a time of 2:05:50 and Kenyan, Stanley Biwott finished fourth.
Kipchoge who is the eleventh Kenyan to win the London Marathon has won eight medals for Kenya from major international events.
For the women’s event, Tigist Tufa from Ethiopia saw an end to Kenyan domination of the sport with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, 22 seconds. Kenyan and two-time winner Mary Keitany came in 18 seconds later and Ethiopian Tirfi Tsegaye, was third.
