African and Asian leaders to fight extremism

April 29, 2015 Leaders from Africa and Asia have met and agreed to find more means to cooperate in fully fighting extremism, including its financing.  At the conclusion of the summit in Indonesia, the leaders released a joint statement outlining some of their cooperative efforts. These efforts will include countering the appeal of terrorism and violent extremism as well as countering the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes. The leaders also plan to jointly fight against the funding of terrorism, even the payment of ransoms.

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, Prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, and Chinese President Xi Jinping were some of the leaders who attended the summit which had about one hundred and ten Asian-African Conference member countries present.

The summit attendees also repeated a call for the reformation of the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to better represent Asia and Africa. They stressed that a reformed body is necessary and will better the collective interests of developing countries, especially with the current security concerns.
