African National Congress (ANC) has won the 5th democratic elections in South Africa’s general elections

14 May 2014 Times Live SA shares the information that the African National Congress (ANC) has won the 5th democratic elections in South Africa’s general elections which held recently.

The ANC saw its majority shrink to 62.1%, while the Democratic Alliance grew its vote share to 22.2%. The Economic Freedom Fighters came third with 6.3 percent.

The ANC will hold 249 seats in Parliament — 15 less than in the first term of the Zuma administration — while the DA and EFF will respectively fill 89 and 25 seats in the legislature.

President Jacob Zuma in his acceptance speech said that the victory confirmed South Africans’ deep loyalty to the former liberation movement and dedicated it to the memory of Nelson Mandela, who took the oath as the country’s first democratic president 20 years ago.

He added that his government would use the mandate to speed up service delivery and infrastructure development.

More than 18 million South Africans voted in the provincial and national elections for a total voter turnout of 73%
