Argentina creates new media and communication regulator

Jan 04, 2016 The Argentine government recently announced the creation of a new body to regulate the activity of the media and communications industry.

According to  a statement released by the government, the new National Authority for Communications will combine the portfolios of the Federal Authority of Audiovisual Communication Services and the Federal Authority for Information Technology and Communications.

Speaking to this effect, Cabinet Chief Marcos Pena said:

“Today, based on a decision by President Macri, the war between the State and journalism ends. An era of confrontation and fighting, which has been useless and has damaged democracy in our country, ends. And, on the other side, today begins a public policy of communication from the 21st century in Argentina,”
