AU observes a memorial for migrants who died in the Mediterranean

June 01, 2015 In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Diplomats, religious leaders and former migrants gathered for a memorial service at the African Union headquarters in the country in honor of the thousands of migrants who have died as they tried to cross the Mediterranean into Europe.

It is recalled that the Union has been accused of failing to respond to the recent surge in the number of would-be migrants from the continent. Many African leaders are also speaking up about the need to find permanent solutions to the issues that cause emigration.

We certainly hope that the recent sad incidents will cause all in positions of authority to create lasting and sustainable solutions.
