Award winning Ugandan author passes on

Today’s news ends on a bit of a low note because of the sad passing of Godfrey Kalimugogo, a renowned author and former career diplomat from Uganda. He was aged 72.
According to the writer’s son Andrew, the late writer whose works were mostly inspired by personal experiences and society, had been ill for two weeks, before breathing his last on the 25th of this month at Mengo Hospital in Kampala.

Mr Kalimugogo is famed for his exposure of societal ills such as corruption and domestic violence in his brilliant books and novels. In 2004, his book, titled A Visitor without a Mission won the Book of the Year award, and another work by him, A Murky River won the National Book Trust of Uganda annual literary award in 2009.

Mr Kalimugogo schooled in Uganda, attending Kihanga Boys’ School, and graduating with an honors degree in English and classical literature from The Makerere University in 1968. He went on to bag a post-graduate degree from the University of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania.
May his soul rest in peace.
