Jan 20, 2016 Ahead of President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Egypt, Chinese ambassador to Egypt Song Aiguo said the visit could further upgrade the two countries’ relationship and yield greater potential for cooperation.
During the visit, China and Egypt will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the joint diplomatic relations between them.
Speaking to this effect, Song said:
“The China-Egypt relationship is a comprehensive strategic partnership. President Xi’s visit takes place at a time when the two counties’ relations have marched into a new phase, which will greatly deepen the development of the two nations’ friendly cooperation in sectors including politics, economy, culture, and tourism. The visit will bear more concrete fruits to the [comprehensive strategic] China-Egypt relationship,”
Song went on to say that both countries can achieve mutual benefits under the framework of China’s “Belt and Road” regional infrastructure and trade initiative.
“Egypt sits at the western intersection of the Belt and Road, and our Egyptian friends welcome China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The two sides will address cooperation under the initiative during President Xi’s visit. Egypt is actively working on its Suez Canal Area Development Project, which totally correspond with China’s initiative,”
