CAF backs Sheikh Salman in FIFA presidential battle
Feb 10, 2016 Still on the race for FIFA presidency, Bahrain’s Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa recently received the endorsement from the Confederation of African Football.
Speaking to reporters, CAF vice-president Suketu Patel said:
“CAF will give full support to Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa towards his candidacy for the FIFA presidency,”
Salman already has the backing of his own confederation while his closest rival, Gianni Infantino has the support of UEFA as well as the 10-member South American confederation.
CAF’s decision is a blow to the hopes of South African candidate Tokyo Sexwale, who had been aiming to get the support of his own continent but has recently been under pressure to withdraw.
