Cameroon: Football Updates
8th Sep 2014 Another country shaking things up is Cameroon. The nation has had quite a run of bad press lately; what with the fight on the pitch during the world cup. Plus Samuel Eto’o’s just announced retirement. National Coach Volker Finke thinks that they need a fresh start.
According to Times Live SA, the Coach is quoted as saying “This is a new departure for Cameroon, after the Brazilian World Cup which will still haunt the mind for a long time. I’ve had to standardise many things and this is why I have made some sharp changes in the selection of the players.”
He adds “The idea is a balance between youth and experience, to build a competitive team for a better future. The talent is there, but you have to train them. It is possible that it can take a while but not too much. I’m ready to lead this reconstruction,”
The Coach’s contract expires after next year’s African Nations Cup finals but we’re quite sure that he will go a long way towards repairing Cameroon’s tarnished image between now and then.
