Oct 29, 2015 U.S Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson recently suggested a U.S. health savings account for the elderly. During an NBC “Meet the Press” interview, Ben Carson said:
“First of all, what I have said is that the system that I would put in place would largely negate the need for Medicare or for Medicaid. So I’m not talking about getting rid of those programs. And the way that I generally see things, entitlement programs, etcetera, is we create a mechanism that allows people to ascend the ladder of success to the extent that they don’t need those programs anymore. That’s what I’m talking about.”
Ben Carson, a retired Neurosurgeon, recently overtook Donald Trump in a Quinnipiac University opinion poll.
Also commenting on other issues, Carson insisted that gun ownership rights should not be compromised. However he said the government should device ways to keep guns from the mentally ill.
“We should never compromise the second amendment. It’s there for a very, very important reason. And you know, Noah Webster said America would never suffer under tyranny, because the people are armed, so we need to keep that in mind. Of course we should be thinking of about what can we do to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of mentally unstable people. The two things are not incompatible.”
