Carter and New Zealand scoop top awards
Nov 04, 2015 New Zealand’s Dan Carter recently completed a memorable weekend when he was voted Rugby’s player of the year for a third time, a day after being named man of the match in New Zealand’s World Cup final victory over Australia.
Carter, who also won in 2005 and 2012, joined team mate Richie McCaw as the only triple winners of the award since its inauguration in 2001.
After receiving the award at the ceremony in London, Cater said:
“It’s been a fairytale finish, an absolute dream come true this last 24 hours. I never expected this, I was just happy to be part of this World Cup winning side, but to win back-to-back World Cups and I guess have the finish on what’s been an amazing career I’m just so fortunate. When awards like these… you just can’t help but think of your team mates, these are the guys that got me to where I am and it’s a special bunch of guys and I’m just blessed to be a part of such a unique team,”
