27th Jan 2014 – And the Nigerian Super Eagles have continued with their string of good fortune with a sensational win over Morocco in the ongoing CHAN 2014 games.
ThisDay Live reports that Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles sensationally came back from three goals down to beat Morocco 4-3 and qualify for the semi-finals.
The 2nd half of the game saw Nigeria 3 goals down with 2 goals scored by Moshine Moutaouali and one by Iajour Mouhsinne.
However ThisDay Live tells us that Ugonna Uzochukwu pulled a goal back four minutes after the break when he toe-poked the ball from the top of the box. Rabiu Ali then scored Nigeria’s second goal on 56 minutes as he smashed home from the edge of the goal area and Ejike Uzoenyi completed a remarkable Nigerian comeback when he struck on the stroke of 90 minutes with a shot from outside the box.
Substitute Aliyu Ibrahim rounded it out by grabbing the winner for Nigeria in the 11th minute.
The Eagles will meet Ghana later on in the week in the semi final match.
Now this news will no doubt please Coach Stephen Keshi immensely, as he had announced before the Eagles clash with Morocco, that his 52nd birthday would not be celebrated until Nigeria achieves success at the ongoing African Nations Championship in South Africa.
ThisDay Live quotes him as saying: “As a matter of fact we have suspended any form of celebration till we achieve what we came here to do in South Africa,”
However, management and staff of the Green Court Hotel where the Eagles are camping celebrated the coach with birthday balloons and cakes while the players sang Happy Birthday for him.
Also celebrating are the Zimbabwe home based team, who upset Mali 2 – 1 to win a place in the final 4.
