China accomplishes year's employment task ahead of schedule

Oct 30, 2015 Going by recent data, China successfully created 10.66 million new jobs for urban residents in the first nine months of the year.

According to Li Zhong, spokesman for the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the country’s one-year goal of creating 10 million new jobs for urban residents has been achieved.

“The survey and investigation, launched by the Human Resources and Social Security Ministry, of public employment service institutions and human resources markets show that the ratio of jobs to job seekers is 1.09 in the third quarter, showing that the number of jobs are slightly higher than that of job seekers,”

Li Zhong went on to say that although urban unemployment rate rose to 4.05 percent at the end of September, there hasn’t been any massive lay-off among enterprises.

“A survey by our ministry on more than 30,000 enterprises across the country shows that the number of jobs lost since the start of the third quarter is lower than that in the first half of the year. The number of surveyed enterprises having job lost accounts for less than 5 percent of all, at a very low percentage. Job loss is mainly seen in such key sectors as coal mine, iron and steel, and chemistry, during their efforts to eliminate overcapacity or improve environmental protection,”
