Dec 04, 2015 Chinese President Xi Jinping recently met with his Zimbabwean counterpart Robert Mugabe in Harare, where they both spoke very highly of the friendship between the two countries and agreed to boost pragmatic cooperation.
During the state visit, President Xi urged that China and Zimbabwe should not only be good friends in politics but also close partners in development.
According to Xi, his visit to Zimbabwe was to consolidate the traditional friendship between the two countries. He then went to affirm that China will continue working with Zimbabwe to develop the two countries into equal, supportive friends, partners, and brothers.
Xi and Mugabe also witnessed the signing of the economic and technological cooperation agreement between the two governments. The agreement ranged from cooperation in construction, productivity, investment, financing to wildlife protection.
Speaking during the signing, Mugabe said:
“As we engage with various Chinese institutions in structuring co-operation projects against the backdrop of the harsh and illegal sanctions we greatly appreciate the understanding and the flexibility shown by China. It is precisely that empathetic approach based on principles, solidarity and genuine friendship, which is accelerating our recovery from the debilitating sanctions,”
Elsewhere, Peng Liyuan, the wife of Chinese President along with Grace Mugabe, wife of President Mugabe, visited the Grace Mugabe Children’s Home in the Zimbabwean capital city.
During the visit, Peng donated school and sports equipment to orphans while pointing out that it was the responsibility of the general society to help underprivileged children.
