Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi meets with Filipino counterpart for bilateral talks
Nov 12, 2015 Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently met with Philippine’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario for bilateral talks amid tensions in the South China Sea.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed a range of issues including ways to improve Beijing’s relations with Manila. The discussion also touched on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the Philippines for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Manila later in the month.
Minister Wang’s visit came a few weeks after a ruling by an arbitration court in the Netherlands agreed to hear some territorial claims that was filed against China by the Philippines over disputed parts of the South China Sea.
China currently lays claim to most of the South China Sea, through which more than $5 trillion in global trade passes every year.
