Aug 25, 2015 Family and friends of Cilla Black trooped to St Mary’s Church in Liverpool recently for the funeral service of the late British entertainer.
Singers Tom Jones and Cliff Richard, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and TV personality Carol Voderman were some of the high-profile guests who were in attendance.
Outside the church, hundreds of well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to Black who was a proud Liverpudlian.
The entertainer’s funeral mass took place in the same church where her marriage to husband Bobby Willis was blessed in 1969.
Meanwhile some of her local fans who had turned out had memories of their own, Carolyn Thomson said:
“I knew her from – oh it must have been about – 1966 I think – I worked in a fashion shop in Church Street – Dubarry and I served her many a time with dresses and they had to be altered because she like them short and that’s my memory – and that’s my memory – and I just needed to come and say good bye to her – because we all loved her – she’s our princess.”
Another fan, Les Dennis said:
“I think she was – she was more than a national treasure she was like the nation’s favourite sister – big sister. And we will all miss her.”
