Lagos, 01 July 2019. EbonyLife TV, Africa’s first Global Black Entertainment and Lifestyle network, founded by media mogul, Mo Abudu, turns six.
Since launching in 2013, EbonyLife TV continues to create original, premium content, with an African soul that showcases the best of Africa for a Global Black audience. The channel is part of a conglomerate including EbonyLife Films, EbonyLife ON (a global streaming service) and EbonyLife Media.
In 2019 Abudu was awarded the Medailles d’Honneur at Cannes, making her the first Nigerian and African recipient of this award. “My big dream was—and still is—to change the narrative about my continent,” she says, “as a continent, Africa has remained creatively silent for centuries. It is therefore with great pride that we at EbonyLife Media bring our stories to the world through our TV series and our films.”
With three movies snapped up by Netflix and grossing record-breaking highs of 1.4 Billion Naira at the Box-office, EbonyLife Films is set to release their 6th offering, Òlòtūré, a gripping film about Human Trafficking. The studio harnessed the talents of some of the country’s top actors and filmmakers to produce a film that is both intelligent and profound—breaking a bold new genre and stylistic ground for Nollywood. Òlòtūré was recently screened at the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) at CAA’s Los Angeles headquarters.
Labelled as ‘Africa’s most successful woman’, by Forbes magazine, Mo Abudu continues to live by her moniker by recently being selected to chair the 47th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York. The International Emmy Award honours the best in television produced and aired outside of the United States. “At EbonyLife, we believe in changing the global African narrative. And like many, we connect the world with our stories.” – Mo Abudu.
EbonyLife Media has another initiative to look forward to with the soon to be launched EbonyLife Place; a luxury lifestyle and entertainment resort, in Lagos, boasting quality eateries, a 5 Star boutique hotel, exquisite event spaces and most exciting of all, 5 luxury cinema screens.
In celebration of EbonyLife TV’s six years, says Abudu: “Since going live on the 30th of June 2013, EbonyLife Media has truly grown into a media empire. We thank you, Nigeria and the world for loving what we do and I say Happy Birthday to us.”
