06 Feb 2014 – The main purpose of the event was to give an opportunity to women entrepreneurs from different sectors in the economy to network and learn how to access foreign funds to start or expand their different businesses. The event gave the entrepreneurs an opportunity to meet with the Invest Africa team, a UK based platform for business leaders, private investors and entrepreneurs.
The event hosted highly distinguished women, such as The Honourable Minister for Communication Technology, Mrs.Mobola Johnson, The CEO of Standard Chartered Bank; Mrs. Bola Adeola, the CEO of Stanbic Bank; Mrs. Sola David-Borha, Her Excellency the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Mrs.ObiomaImoke, Her Excellency the former first lady of Cross River State; Mrs.Onari Duke and many others.
CEO, EbonyLife TV Mo Abudu emphasized that funding is key to the success of any business and noted that women in particular have a hard time raising funding for their businesses, especially for large scale projects. She also revealed that her key objective was to get women thinking scale and in the long term work with groups such as Invest Africa to set up a private equity fund for women.
In her speech, the Hon. Minister for communication Technology, Mrs Mobola Johnson encouraged women to play more roles in the ICT sectors as she believes that there are more Steve Jobs and Bill Gates waiting to be discovered in the Nigeria ICT Sector.
