Gareth Cliff axed as idols SA judge

Jan 12, 2016 Over to South Africa, where South African media personality Gareth Cliff got fired from the South African Idol judging panel due to his Twitter comment regarding racist debate, over the weekend.

Following the social media attack on estate agent Penny Sparrow who referred to black South Africans as monkeys on her facebook page, famous TV and SA Idol judge Gareth Cliff stated that “People don’t really understand free speech at all” when responding to a twitter poll on whether racist social media posts should be criminalized.

This prompted Twitter trolls to call on M-Net to axe Gareth Cliff as an Idols SA judge as well as boycott of his online radio show by his fans.

Gareth Cliff has since appealed to engage in a constructive conversation to resolve the matter.
