Germany's political elite arrives for reunification celebrations

The commemoration was attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Joachim Gauck and the president of the German parliament, Norbert Lammert.

According to the city of Frankfurt, St. Paul’s Church was completely destroyed in 1944. However it was reconstructed after the war and has since served exclusively as a place to commemorate the beginning of German democracy.
