Sep 17, 2015 The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently expressed its committed to support theLiberian economy in its post-Ebola recovery. This was made known by Christine Lagarde, the Managing Director of the fund.
Speaking after a meeting with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Lagarde praised Liberia for its hard work in combating the deadly virus.
“We will continue to be by your side, of Liberia, in its effort to, not only stabilise but develop the economy around the key direction of power, peace, security, working on developing those hard and soft infrastructure,”
Liberia, which was recently declared Ebola-free by the world health organization, was one of the worse hit regions with over 4,800 deaths.
During the Ebola crisis, the IMF provided around $130 million in new financing and debt relief for Liberia. President Sirleaf expressed appreciation to the fund for its help in reconstructing the country after the ravage caused by the virus.
“We want to thank you that, we’ve been able as you join other partners to reinforce our hope, our confidence in our nation’s ability to contain the crisis and the virus and leaving us to embark once again on our reconstruction effort.”
