Jonathan Mensah banned from soccer for 4 months

May 20 , 2015 Ghana’s national team suffered a blow recently with the news that their defender Jonathan Mensah, will be absent from their 2017 Nations Cup qualifier against Mauritius scheduled to hold in Accra on the 14th of June. The absence is due to a worldwide four month ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, given because of Mensah’s transfer from Udinese to Evian before the end of his contract with the former, four years ago.

The 24 year old joined Udinese from Free State Stars in South Africa after impressing for Ghana during their 2009 World Youth Cup victory. However, he struggled to get into the Italian team and instead spent time on loan at Granada before his transfer to Evian.

The court ruled in favor of Italian club Udinese, stating that Mensah’s transfer to the French side as a free agent was illegal because he was still under contract at the time. His ban will expire on 29th of August 2015.
