July 28, 2015 Elections which held in Camp Nou on July 18 have unveiled Josep Maria Bartomeu as winner, and subsequently president of FC Barcelona with 54.63 percent of the votes of 25,823 members behind him.
Former incumbent Joan Laporta, president of the Catalan club from 2003 to 2010, took 33.03 percent, Agusti Benedito was third with 7.16 percent and Toni Freixa polled 3.70 percent.
Bartomeu will now preside over Barca’s championships for the next six years.
Jordi Calsamiglia, Secretary of FC Barcelona’s Commission made the announcement.
“This election board, this election committee announces winner of the elections the candidacy lead by Josep Maria Bartomeu y Floreta,” he said.
Bartomeu endured a turbulent spell after he took over in January 2014. He brought forward elections by a year with the club in crisis at board level over poor management and claims of corruption. He also capitalized on Barca’s success last season, as well as triumphs in La Liga and the King’s cup, to defeat his challengers. He spoke to reporters.
“We will keep growing and winning if we keep looking after (coach) Luis Enrique and the players,”
“We will keep growing and winning if we look after the Masia (youth academy). It needs to be effective and be the base for the first team so that players coming through show our style of play and values.”
He has resumed office and plans to execute his many dreams and plans for the promising club that is home to soccer stars like Puyol, Xavi, Avidal, and Lionel Messi.
