Kenya Government Works on Improving its Power Situation.

24th Nov 2014 And Kenya is trying to step up its response to the power situation with a report from Ventures Africa that the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $133 million loan to fund a power project that will connect at least 314,200 new customers in Kenya’s rural areas.

The project is estimated to cost at least $147 million, and the Kenyan government will be contributing $14 million of that.

A statement by Alex Rugamba, director of the AfDB’s energy, environment and climate change Department, informs us that “This project will increase access to modern reliable and affordable energy supply, which will in turn encourage Kenya’s transition to green growth,”.

We’re told that the government of Kenya intends to add 5,000 megawatts of capacity to the existing 1,664 MW by 2017.
