Kenya to lift flight restrictions to West Africa
9th Feb 2015 The Secretary of Kenya’s health ministry, James Macharia, has said that the government will lift the restriction of flights to and from Ebola-hit countries in West Africa in about three weeks, as they have been following the progress of the situation.
Mr. Macharia who spoke to Star newspaper is quoted as saying “We will lift the ban because of the impressive reports we are receiving from our doctors who are in the region,”.
He also added the government will receive an official report from the African Union on the progress made with curbing the virus, and this will determine if more doctors and medics will be sent from Kenya to the affected areas, or not. He added “The AU training unit, with the help of the World Bank, trained them for the first three weeks they were in the region,”
It is noted that Kenya has received a lot of pressure from global health governing bodies and other institutions to lift the ban it imposed last year, to help with efforts to contain the deadly epidemic.
