Kenya’s Okwiri Oduor Emerges Winner of the Caine Prize Award for Literature.

17th July 2014 In a message on the Caine Prize website, Kenya’s Okwiri Oduor was announced as the winner for what is commonly thought of as Africa’s leading literary award, for her short story entitled ‘My Father’s Head.

We’re told that she was announced by the Chair of Judges, Jackie May MBE, at a dinner held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

Okwiri Oduor will have the opportunity to take up a month’s residence at Georgetown University, as a Writer-in-Residence at the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice. She will also be invited to take part in the Open Book Festival in Cape Town, the Storymoja Hay Festival in Nairobi and the Ake Festival in Nigeria.
