Kerry says next round of Syria talks in New York

Dec 08, 2015 U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry recently announced that the next round of talks to address the crisis in Syria will take place in New York later this month.

Kerry, who made the remark at the Brookings Institute think tank, said:

“Our goal is to facilitate a transition that all parties have stated that they support – a unified Syria, a nonsectarian Syria; a Syria which will choose its own leadership in the future by an election that they have all agreed will be supervised by the United Nations under the highest standards of international law and of elections with fair full transparency and accountability. In order for even the diaspora to be able to vote for a future leadership.”

Kerry also added that resolving the political concerns in the Syrian civil war will effectively facilitate the fight against the Islamic State.
