Jan 19, 2016 London visitors recently saw their favorite landmarks transformed at the first ever Lumiere London light festival.
The festival featured an array of light installations created by UK and international artists. The display ranged from dazzling light installations suspended above Oxford Street to a vibrant circus display at Kings Cross.
Helen Marriage, the curator of Lumiere London, said the aim was to convert the capital into an outdoor gallery.
”There is a whole variety of stuff to see in Lumiere London, the essential ingredient of all of it is light, artists are working with all different technologies, whether that is video mapping… freestanding neon’s, installations made with fibre optics, projections, all kinds of stuff that is united in this idea of lighting up the wintery darkness.”
American artist Janet Echelman, who crafted an interactive light display above Oxford Street, said:
”People who come to this work will be invited through their cellphone to select colors that are projected onto the surface of my sculpture, and as they touch with their finger that footprint, the heat of their touch is projected onto the work.”
